A Good Shattering

If the choice is:
Receiving
An old platitude
Or
A comfortable lie
Or
A good shattering
From the truth
Of your life

Choose the shattering

When life delivers
The Big Cut
You could live in
A state of perpetual
disappointment
Of
Pathos
Of
Weakness
Or
You could choose
A good shattering

Choose the shattering

Where you gulp
For air
Like a fish
In a stale pond

Where your eyes
Don't stop bleeding
Tears
Like the mother
Of a murdered child

A good shattering

Where your chest
Compresses with pressure
Brought by fear
Like a rib cracking beating
Of a school bully

A good shattering

Where your heart
Aches beyond
The tolerance of
An airless fascist prison
In Mid summer
In the third world

The stunning disbelief
Brought by the end of
An idyllic thirty six year
Marriage

The letting go
Of a once beautiful child
With incurable disabilities
To a distant place

A good shattering

Choose the shattering
Its coming anyway
